Abstract:
A rational simplified model was developed to study thestability behavior of flanges in H-shaped members with corrugated web. The relationship of elastic buckling stress of flanges, nominal width-to-thickness ratio of flanges and profile of web was discussed. Two different buckling modes were observed and corresponding equations to calculate the critical load were given. A series of elastoplastic analyses were performed on sinusoidal web members with varied buckling modes and characteristics of the ultimate loading capacity versus width-to-thickness ratio were pointed out. It is shown that when buckling mode Ⅰ controls, the behavior of flange stability will be very bad, and rational limit value ofwidth-to-thickness ratio is suggested for design based on the buckling stress of buckling mode Ⅱ.
