- In order to obtain the mechanical characteristic of guide plate at natural ventilation cooling tower air-inlet under wind load to guide design of this structure, the finite element simulation of guide plate was carried out using ANSYS. The results show that the displacement and stress of guide plates decrease when cross bridging increases, and the decreasing speed gradually slows down. The displacement and stress of guide plate have no relation with the bolts number of guide plate bottom connected with the foundation, but have a clear relation with the layout location of bolts. The more outward the bolt position is, the smaller the stress and displacement of guide plate are. The maximum value of displacement and stress of guide plate concentrate on two crossbeams at the bottom and two vertical columns. When guide plate is designed, the optimal number of cross bridging is 12 pairs, 4-5 rows of bolts at the bottom are needed, and should be arranged as far as possible outside. The size of two crossbeams at the bottom and two vertical columns should be larger than other members of guide plates.
