- Abstract:
- n order to study the failure modes and axial compressive bearing capacity and loadstrain curves of circular timber columns strengthened with nearsurface mounted carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) rods, the axial compression property tests on twelve specimens were carried out, including four unstrengthened specimens and four specimens strengthened with Φ6 mm CFRP rods and four specimens strengthened with Φ8 mm CFRP rods. The deal specimens and fir specimens had half each. Based on the experiment data, the calculation formulas of axial compressive bearing capacity of circular timber columns strengthened with nearsurface mounted CFRP rods were presented. The experiment results show that the axial compressive bearing capacity of the cirular timber columns strengthened with CFRP rods is improved, comparing with the specimens without being strengthened with CFRP rods. The axial compressive bearing capacity of deal specimen improves by 6.2%26.9%, and the axial compressive bearing capacity of fir specimen improves by 26.4%47.1%. The peak compression strains of strengthened specimens improve a little. [HJ]The loadlongitudinal compression strain curves are commonly linear, and the plastic deformation in the later stage is small.
