- Abstract:
- In order to investigate the coupling oscillation mechanism of vortexinduced vibration and galloping for box hangers of bridge, the numerical simulations were performed with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software FLUENT based on section model wind tunnel test parameters and test results of box hangers with large slenderness ratio of a large span arch bridge. The details on aerodynamic forces and vortices of this kind of coupling vibration were further disclosed by FLUENT. The study results show that calculation results agree well with experimental results. With the continuous increase of the vibration amplitude, the wake vortices shedding turns from the Karmen mode at tiny oscillation amplitude stage to the multiple composite mode at large amplitude stage, and the frequency spectrum of aerodynamic lift transforms from single frequency to multiple frequency during coupled vibration process of vortexinduced vibration and galloping vibration.
