Abstract:
The design of the joints between the cable and the arch is a difficult technological problem in the bridge construction. Authors employed the creative design of outer cable joints, which was applied for the first time in the world. By using finite element software, the ultimate capacity of joints under various load cases was calculated and the stress distribution was analyzed, which directed the application of the joints. The design fulfills the requirement of ultimate capacity and deformation, the construction of it which is easy and a good performance is obtained after the application. Also, the calculation results of the analysis are in good accord with those of the full-scale tests in site, and the design provides a useful reference to the corresponding project.
