Abstract:
A comparison of shear strength calculation method of RC beams was studied between Chinese Code for Design of Concrete Structures(GB 50010—2002)and American Code ACI 318M—05 based on the test results in the literatures available in China and abroad. The maximum and minimum transversal reinforcement ratios specified in both codes were also compared. The results show that the assurance percentage of shear strength of American code is more reliable than Chinese code, and the difference of assurance percentage of Chinese code and American code is greater with the stirrup amount. It is indicated that there are some unreasonable problems for shear strength calculation in Chinese code, and the modification should be further adopted.
