Abstract:
Based on analyzing the available test data in detail, the calculation formulae of equivalent slenderness ratio which were used in planar truss design were put forward. The feature of these formulae lied in giving directly reduced slenderness ratio for angle steel of various strength grades. Beside correct calculation, the analytical results show that the effects of constructional measures have to be considered in designing single-angle steel struts connected by one leg except for correct calculation. Web members can be laid on a same side of the chord, the thickness of gusset plate and the width-thickness ratio have to be concerned. These issues are discussed and calculation formulae of width-thickness ratio limiting values of connecting leg are proposed.
