Abstract:
In order to make designs of deep beam based on appropriate theory, a design method of deep beam under uniform distributed loads by using strut-and-tie model was developed, for which the reinforced concrete deep beams were modeled as a serial of simple trusses with a common tie, and the equations for computing tension stress in tie and compression stress in strut were derived. An example was given to demonstrate its using model. The study results show that the diagonal strut with the angle 26.5° of tie controls the strength of concrete and strut with the angle 90° of tie controls the minimum reinforcement requirements for limiting cracks.
