Abstract:
The strain rates of concrete in reinforced concrete frame structure members were analyzed by using finite element software ABAQUS. The beam and column element nonlinearity was modeled in stress-strain relation level. Elastic-plastic seismic responses of reinforced concrete frame structure with strain rate effect under multi-directional excitation were studied. The seismic responses with strain rate effects were analyzed under same seismic wave and different peak accelerations. The results with strain rate were compared with those without strain rate to study the difference in the elastic-plastic seismic response. The study results show that the strain rates in beam elements are smaller than those in the column elements. The strain rate in the element is smaller on upside, and it is also smaller in the section of the mid-span. The displacement response, base shear and moment of structure were changed when the strain rate effects are taken into account. The strain rate effect under the stronger seismic wave is more prominent. The elastic-plastic seismic response of reinforced concrete frame structure is affected by the strain rate. The strain rate effects should be considered properly in the seismic analysis under intense ground motion.
