Abstract:
Considering a great number of buildings collapsed in “5·12” Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008, several integrity defects of existing masonry structures and common strengthening methods were summarized. A general finite element analysis software ANSYS was used to build an numerical model of a typical masonry teaching building with precast reinforced concrete (RC) slabs, and Wenchuan earthquake wave was input on this model. By applying finite element time-history analysis method, the responses under seismic waves for masonry teaching buildings strengthened by cast-in-place RC layer before and after strengthening were analyzed, moreover, the structural modal, deformation and stress level were mainly compared. The results show that cast-in-place RC layer will effectively restrain the deformation of walls, thus the accelerations of cross and longitudinal walls match well, and the deformation and maximum stress of walls are reduced. This indicates that adding castinplace RC layer is an effective method for strengthening precast RC slabs.
