Abstract:
To investigate the performance of square concretefilled doubleskin steel tube (CFDST) under lateral partial compression, a nonlinear finite element analysis model was developed by using ABAQUS software. At the same time, six specimens with the variation of width ratio between bearing member and specimen and hollow ratio were tested. The failure pattern, loaddisplacement curve, loadstrain curve and bearing capacity of the specimens were compared with the tested results and the causes of the differences between simulation results and tested results were also analyzed. The results show that square CFDST under lateral partial compression has good mechanical behavior, and the predicted responses of square CFDST under lateral partial compression by the finite element simulation are generally in good agreement with the tested results.
