Abstract:: A great number of problems were found in historical and cultural village Hujiadazhuang village, which included demolition and abandonment of historical buildings, destruction of traditional layout, erosion of traditional landscape, loss of traditional customs, loss of history record about the village and loss of population. In order to solve these problems and to facilitate the development of the village, the authors conducted researches on the preservation and development of the village in terms of its “people, culture, land, landscape and production” from the perspective of “community building”. The goal of the study was to help make good use of human resources, preserve and promote culture and customs, protect and reuse historical buildings, improve public space, recreate landscape and run its business in an innovative way. The results show that the strategy for the protection and development of historical and cultural villages based on the theory of “community building” has helped to inherit traditional culture and develop local characteristics in the village, and has also resolved the conflict between the preservation and development of Hujiadazhuang village, which provides reference for preservation and development of similar historical and cultural village.
