Abstract:
The three dimensional numerical simulation of the flow fields of fan-shaped icing double cables and ice free double cables with different cable spacings were carried out by using the SST model in FLUENT. The drag coefficient, lift coefficient and galloping force coefficient of downstream cables at 0°-90° wind attack angle were obtained. Furthermore, the influences of the spacing between two cables, the wind attack angle and the icing condition on the wake galloping stability of the double cables were studied. The results show that the three dimensional numerical simulation results of icing double cables are different from the numerical simulation results of ice free double cables. The icing double cables are more susceptible to wake galloping instability than the ice free double cables. The closer the cable spacing is, the more likely the wake galloping is. When the spacing between icing double cables exceeds a certain range, no wake galloping instability will occur. The range of the wind attack angle between the two cables is related to the spacing between the cables. The closer the cable spacing is, the smaller the wind attack angle is when the wake galloping is unstable. There is a great difference in the flow field around double cables with different spacing. When the cable spacing is close, it is similar to the flow around a single bluff body.
