Abstract:
In order to examine the effects of concrete-filling on structural behavior of rectangular hollow section(RHS)trusses, an RHS truss, whose compression chord member was filled with concrete, was investigated by finite element method. Considering the material and geometric nonlinearity, the stress, deformation distribution, plastic development and failure mode of the structure under loading were analyzed. The results indicate that the bearing capacity of the truss is determined by the over deformation of joints on unfilled RHS chord member, which is critical factor for RHS trusses. The deformation and the stress of joints on filled RHS chord member are quite small, and their bearing capacities improve greater than the unfilled joints. It also has good ductility for the RHS truss with concrete-filled compression chord member.
